Occupational Therapy

While many individuals on the spectrum have difficulty communicating or expressing their needs, some have deficits in the areas of motor skills, making it difficult to physically perform the actions necessary to help themselves.

How Occupational Therapy Helps

Occupational therapy can assist clients develop necessary skills in the areas of fine motor skills, visual motor integration, and sensory motor integration, allowing for greater independence and ability.
Fine Motor Skills
Development of strength, posture, and control. This leads to the development of more precise tasks such as grasping and manipulating objects.
Visual Motor Integration
These skills work on spatial awareness, and the ability to interact with the objects in our environment. These skills lead into a variety of early development tasks, including writing and building.
Sensory Motor Integration
Deals with the ability to understand and interact with information via their senses. A common struggle for those with ASD, this skillset is necessary for the development of many social skills and functional living skills.

Springtide's Occupational Therapy

Springtide understands that any challenges a client faces can be a potential hurdle if not addressed properly. There is little point in addressing behavior without identifying why a child might be exhibiting a certain behavior. When a child is unable to perform the physical actions their mind is telling them to do, this can cause immense stress and frustration (as it would for any of us). Our Occupational Therapists are trained to work alongside our therapists and other specialists to identify any areas of deficit that may be affecting other areas in the client’s development and address them quickly and collaboratively.

Our 360-Approach to Care

Many motor skills can be developed through play-based activities, such as the ones used in a typical ABA session at Springtide Child Development. Our ABA therapists are highly trained to develop core motor skills and functional skills throughout their session if their individual client program calls for it. Our therapists work together under one roof and can collaborate seamlessly to ensure that the right attention is given to the right area in each child’s uniquely individual program.
