Speech Therapy

Imagine something was bothering you - you were uncomfortable, hungry, etc.
Now imagine you couldn’t tell anybody about it or do anything to help yourself.
This is the struggle individuals with communication deficits face, and it can exhibit itself in many ways - including behavioral.

How Does Speech Therapy Help?

By providing the tools and training necessary to develop communication skills, individuals on the spectrum are able to communicate their needs to others and advocate for themselves, leading to a reduction in stress in everyday life. These types of skills lead well into others such as social skills, school readiness, and executive functioning.

Example skills to work on:

  • pre-reading and literacy skills,
  • phonemic awareness,
  • sound/syllable manipulation,
  • auditory perceptual skills.

Depending on the child’s current functioning level, services also focus on

  • reading comprehension,
  • vocabulary,
  • Grammar,
  • writing,
  • sentence structure.
Articulation and pragmatic language skills are also addressed to improve the child’s ability to effectively communicate with family, peers and/or teachers

What Does Springtide Speech Therapy Look Like?

Our goal at Springtide is to prepare each client for success now and in the future. As part of each client’s individual program, skills in the areas of communication and language acquisition are assessed and woven into their play-based sessions seamlessly and collaboratively.

Primary areas of focus include:

  1. Speech production
  2. Functional Communication Training
  3. Receptive and Expressive language skills
  4. Social interactions and interpersonal relationships

Our 360-Approach

Our 360 approach allows us to take a step back and look at the whole child when deciding the best programming and areas to focus on. Our ABA therapists are trained to identify external factors, including speech and language deficits, that may be the root cause of a child’s current behavioral struggles and/or regression. Upon identifying these causes, our therapists can immediately work together with Speech Therapists and other professionals to adjust their program accordingly.
